"To teach and promote the art of quality barbecue
while benefiting charitable organizations"
Matt Gamble grew up in North Eastern Ohio but moved to Summerville SC when was in middle school. After a short stint in the Army he returned to the Charleston area where he still resides today. He met Russ through a mutual friend and remembers one of their first meetings was putting together a gas grill for a friend. After the assembly Matt and Russ stood around the fire and drank beer as the food cooked. That tradition is still carried on today. After 2000 Matt and Russ decided to get serious about BBQ and started participating in local competitions. With some early success using offset Brinkmans and Russ' dad's "Cajun Microwave" they were able to purchase a gas cooker. "The Hunley",as it is referred to, due to its not so subtle resemblance to the famed Civil War era sub, has performed wonderfully for them over the years and will be still used on a regular basis. A Tucker Cooker was recently purchased by Matt's wife so the team would be able to cook in more KCBS events. Throughout the years Matt has seen many members come and go from the team but the original 2 are still together and will be for the foreseeable future. However he would like to add that there is always room for one more member on the team, the 12-3am fire watch is always available.
